  1. 1

    Know what usually causes it

Nappy rash is very common. It usually starts when skin stays damp under a wet or dirty nappy for a while, or gets rubbed by a nappy that’s too tight. New foods, teething and tummy bugs can make it more likely, too.

  2. 2

Change more often while it heals

Check the nappy often and change it as soon as it’s wet or dirty, day and night. The less time sore skin spends damp, the sooner it can settle.

  3. 3

Clean gently, then let it dry

Wipe softly rather than rubbing, and pat dry instead of scrubbing. Our Baby Wipes are alcohol and fragrance free and pH balanced for baby’s skin. A little nappy-free time on a towel helps the skin dry, too.

A thick layer of barrier crème

Smooth a thick layer of Baby Bum Crème over the sore area at every change. It forms a barrier between the wet nappy and baby’s skin, with zinc oxide and lanolin, and it provides overnight relief for the bedtime nappy.

  2. 5

Keep everything in one hand’s reach

A sore baby can be a wriggly baby. The Bum Buddy keeps Bum Crème and wipes at the flip of a lid, so your other hand stays on baby. Never leave baby alone on a changing table, even for a second.

When to see the clinic or a doctor

See your clinic, GP or paediatrician if the rash isn’t better after a few days of this care, if the skin is broken, bleeding, weeping or blistered, if there are spots spreading beyond the nappy area, if baby has a fever or seems unwell, or if baby is very young. Trust your instincts.

Always check with your clinic sister, midwife or doctor if you’re worried.
